  1. HOLD OFF DOING ANYTHING FOLKS. New approach to control cable replacement | Civil Aviation Safety Authority
  2. A small correction to your earlier post Jaba-Who: APs (for VH experimental) don't actually have the power within their CASA Instrument of Appointment to approve any maintenance aspects for anybody, but they sure do have the power to prevent it, ie, LAME maintenance only, "in the interests of safety of other airspace users and persons on the ground or water." This is common for bought aircraft (to be newly registered), brought in (to Aust) aircraft, and cases where the applicant cannot prove to the satisfaction of the AP that they built it (well, more than 51% of it). So regarding APs "approving maintenance", a better description is that they have no reason to disagree with owner/builder maintenance happening. CASA takes care of the approvals via the various criteria within the maintenance Instrument of Appointment (currently, Instrument 15/16.) If one meets those listed criteria, that makes you approved, and away you go. An APs Instrument of Appointment details very specifically what they can do, and approving maintenance is not one of them. Back at the start of Experimental, yes, it was common for an AP to approve (really, concur with) builder maintenance, (before CASA mandated certain things to happen.) Now, not so. You have a very good understanding of the processes for VH EXP Jaba, thank you for your contributions to the discussion and keeping people on the right track!
  3. Country here too. I've been through Bogan Gate and past The Bogan Way west of Parkes. Didn't really see any.
  4. Just heard from my mate "on the water" there in his bird at 4:15pm Fri. Couple of SeaReys, a Renegade, a nice new Rans S7 with the coolest rego/callsign possible, a Super Petrel or two, no Bird Dog coming (though the owner is there), and quite a few others weathered in around Sydney unable to get out. Catalina still planned to get there eventually, but will not land on the water. Transmission ends........................
  5. Y Koo Wee Rup. (I didn't bother to look if it was already used!)
  6. Add JETGO to Essendon airlines. Would YKWR (?) have a dedicated Bogan lounge?
  7. Looking at this another way Zodiac, so you don't get your ASIC in time, so what. Won't you then be just like every single other person wandering all over Avalon airside secure area with no ASIC? I assume Avalon gets declared a Special Event Zone to allow 343,276 or so other non ASIC holders to freely wander the public areas classified as airside. I also assume you plan to fly into Avalon to display (park) your aircraft, not Avalon East. Unless they want your ASIC card number in advance, just go. If you get bailed up, just declare yourself to be a visitor and demand a VIC (visitor ID card) and an armed escort as you go about your lawful business. But yes, of course it's disappointing to not get a card in a timely manner, you're trying to do the proper thing. Good luck either way, enjoy the event.
  8. Once more with feeling..... ASIC has got nothing (n.o.t.h.i.n.g.) to do with CASA. It's not their baby. See the link posted by the topic starter.
  9. Yes, correct there, thanks for that. I was more thinking of the other flight instruments, only IFR in USA need them checked, as detailed in the FARs.
  10. Yes you are correct Yenn. This "only for CTA" is an urban myth, pure B.S., sometimes spruiked by LAME's on a maint release. Where do they get it? It's not in AD/RAD/47 or CAO 100.5. The AD and the CAO are for all transponders, as you say Yenn, and that's where it ends. But, I'm happy to be proven wrong readers, just quote me the relevant regulation paragraph and we'll shake on it. Interestingly, regular instrument testing is only required for IFR aircraft in USA. VFR's don't require it.
  11. Rob Scott of Transaero Maryborough VIC is familiar with T18.
  12. RSJ is still going strong Victapilot!
  13. Spent a couple hours there a couple years ago and was made to feel welcome by those I met. I sneaked away from my Mrs and her school reunion down the road. He He.......
  14. Almost got it. CAR 2 (7) (d) (iv) actually.
  15. Jabiru does indeed have in-house CNC capability.
  16. OZKOSH was busy Friday and PACKED Saturday. A huge success I say, and it takes a bit to impress me. Well done organisers, displays, seminar presenters and catering. And well done to all those who flew in.
  17. Thank you Neil. Looks like some sunshine finally coming there next week.
  18. Anyone know the result of the OZKOSH organiser's mid-day meeting on-site there today (Friday)?
  19. Surely you mean the VACUUM test on your wallet.
  20. Friend had similar problem in his warbird. Too much time spent on the one freq and the remote head for the radio - all the contacts had jiggled enough to become a bit dirty and unstable. A spray inside with electronic contact cleaner plus a bit of light cleaning on the dial contacts did wonders. Frequent changing of the frequency would have probably kept the contacts all nicely working. Not sure if you can get into the box to do that yourself. Hope this helps.
  21. Tech Form 121 Daily Flight Record for RAAus aircraft. Maybe it's not quite released (live) just yet. Part of the new Tech Manual.
  22. Like this? I think they also had MUM and NAN and POP from memory...
  23. You know what I love, NOT: Santa is not displaying an valid ASIC or VIC while in the designated secure areas of Melbourne airport. Santa is not even Santa - he is some person in disguise, willingly and deliberately let in by staff. Would Al Kayder get the same free ride???? WOULD YOU???? WOULD I????? How do we know it wasn't Al himself? ASIC - what A JOKE.
