  1. Alls looking promising , seems the new tech manager is very well informed on the situation and I applaude his efforts to help us owners. Defiantly a new breed of techy . Thanks for info techy I appreciate it emencly :cheers:Any one with issues we now have a very capable tech manger call him he actually doesn't bite.

  2. It is a mass engineering order for all lightwings that's how the engineering order price is kept low$475 low?

" yes we can do the order but it's expensive however we have been swamped with requests so are able to write up one order for all to keep the price down to only $495 just require credit card details and aircraft details"

  3. Ok a little more info. In 2003 owner x ( RAA/GA instructor and lvl 2) stripped the plane and rebuilt it. When it come to the new engine he contacted his nearest rotax dealer and asked for a replacement 532, and was told they have now become a 582 , same engine bigger bore and stroke.and that this was the replacement. He then fitted a 3 blade brolga and sent RAA the info stating the engine change, prop change(note original prop not made anymore) and colour change. This was excepted and the plane was registed . there was never a letter or mention of any engineering orders required! He believed no modifications had been made being a replacement for the 582 and as the prop was not avail anymore he sort in his opinion the safest prop option a 3blade brolga( very smooth, economical, loved it) IMO I feel RAA should organize with manafactures a way to resolve the issues with little to no cost to unsuspecting owners whome threw no fault of there own find themselves like me

,to be clear all that is required is a ph call to give credit card details and aircraft I'd. Then a order will be sent out. It's that simple!hmm but costs $495.

so that's $625 for this years rego! I got $130 reg and a 3blade brolga wonder if howie takes trade

. Lol thanks for your opinions, info and support guys I appreciate it emencly and being out here your opinions makes Me feel I'm not alone:thank you:

  4. Don't worry mate the old two stroke will not die out with me ,that all I fly and all my landing are glide no power landing the little two stroke these day are very reliable if treated right 229 i had a bit over 400 hrs with out a single problem just proper maintains now I have 0032 which also has a 582 blue top with oil injection best think ever for these little engines Your right about there safety record no one has die from a lightwing and only 3 COA. s not bad for over 29 years of flying Yes the little tail dragers are far and few but we are still out there holding up the true ultralight and there are still many about

I for one love the lightwings. And I know many other out there that feel the same.

    Cheers Doug

Me too. Wish I could re new the reg

  5. Guessing its a case of pass the buck? I really feel down and forced into a corner for something little Johnny did 11 years ago. I m still paying for the prop mistake made 11 year ago that had nothing to do with me (was not even a member)but cost me $1470. To make the plane "certified"and to renew the reg.

so Why wasn't everything sorted last year?i don't get it. .?

  6. When I found the plane I rang RAA first to ensure it was currently registed (LEGAL)and was told yes it's currently registed (LEGAL)but requires an inspection from a lvl 2 for transfer.Inspection was done and RAA transferred reg to me NO MENTION of any mods.

I have recently found out fromRAA that 3 owners ago in 2003 it was fully rebuilt and clearly stated on RAA paper work that it had a 582 fittedimage.jpg.56ff5bc951c0967680b874b07884b917.jpg

  7. :crying:As my lightwing -LW 1 rego was due I sent out the relevant signed paperwork and after last years hoop jumping expected no hassles. Re-cap last year required photos and a new CERTIFIED prop fitted( being a carer/ pensioner I had to borrow from my dad to buy it and still paying it off mind you) before being allowed rego. This year they require a hyphen in the tail numbers(doable) and an engineering order for the 582 ? (Not doable)Enoughs enough!!!! I'm NOT paying for your mistakes anymore!!! Management made a mistake back in 2003 then every year continued this mistake, then along came me in2012 and buys my dream plane that is legally registed and had it transferred with inspection and 582 and brolga prop CLEARLY noted and was transferred no issues, (this assured me I Had bought and was flying a legal airworthy plane)then when rego is due I find I need to replace the good prop with a $1400 piece of crap prop "a certified prop". Was not happy but jumped anyway. But now you want me to pay a crap load of $$$ for a piece of paper to be faxed out to you for an engine that's practiclly the same as the original only better mid range and more reliable??? Or re- fit 532...WTF.......Na ah . I don't think so. You pay for your own mistakes.Im joining the band wagon on this one. Why are we baring the cost of poor managment? Way to suck the fun out of ULTRALIGHTING...can't help but think with all the pilots exiting and planes not being renewed how the finances will be effected? Truth is I'm left no option but to let her sit idle as I have no chance of paying out extra money for a piece of paper( keep in mind it's only a piece of signed paper no inspection just pay money and paper faxed to RAA)it's a joke and a blatant attempt to extort money. Some whome have available finances might argue just pay and be done but hey guess what? I got into ultralighing LP aircraft because it ONce was affordable for the average shmoe . I can't keep forking out thousands of $$$ every year rego is due?last year cost me $1470 (prop) $130(reg) that's $1600 for rego for

    that year!

    rant over. no flyerme:crying:Shattered dreams

  8. What if a numbskull inexperienced pilot takes to the air nice and early, the air is calm vision is within legal range all is good. Then as your enjoying the flight you start to notice a haze approaching and vision is becoming alarmingly poor? So you decide to call it quits but alas you can't out the run the haze and it catches you. Shit, you panic and head for the ground searching for a place to put her down, your now down to fence hight in a panic (under 500ft due to weather)and just want to land.you follow the the main rd you see and as you fight for orintaion in a panic skimming the heads of some unsuspecting workmen whom have know idea in YOUR head your actually fighting for survival, you decide whilst vision is good at umpteen ft and suffering from" get home itis" you continue under the haze hoping to make it home. Lol. Just another scenario?

I Have know idea what he/ she was thinking or what caused a pilot to do such a silly thing so I reserve my opinion ,the above is mearly tongue in Cheak and maybe a bit of 074_stirrer.gif.5dad7b21c959cf11ea13e4267b2e9bc0.gif .. Maybe he dropped something and was having a good look for it? His brain maybe?lol

You sure it wasn't,the inspector checking up on your progress?lol work.gif.8d9e6d8ba9cdbd13b3ec052de09a1de4.gif080_plane.gif.36548049f8f1bc4c332462aa4f981ffb.gif

  10. you so shouldn't of sold that thruster

Agree 100%. and the young fella that bought it still hasn'tt flown it nor got his certificate... Waste of a neat lil flyer..If I have it my Way I may own her once again

  11. FMe, you can't be inventive, you need to check the Planning Scheme for your location. Rural Zoning in recent years has picked up new conditions. You don't have to go to the Council, you can get the information online - so simple to do that it's crazy not to. As I said previously, you will usually only get entwined in a planning battle when a neighbour complains, and your alternative description will not carry any weight at all. Better to be safe than sorry.

may be out dated? back in 2005..Councils, in Victoria at least, have no say in it according to a VCAT ruling a few years back down Colac way. I'll track down the ruling link. It's interesting reading. A mate just had a win for his own home strip 2008, with his council admitting that they have *no* say in it. Planning permission is not required for a private airstrip. Helipad yes, private strip, no.

Stand by for a link to the ruling.....

  12. quote David =You do NOT need Council approval to land and takeoff aircraft from your own property or to allow visitors to use for visiting in same way motor vehicles can arrive and leave your property without Council approval. Your neighbours cannot legally stop you, but they can object and cause trouble, so best to agree with them that you will fly neigbourly.

To clarify, I am specifically referring to rural land, I wouldn't try it in a 5 acre allotment among a whole lot of others.

I suggest to search the other threads, there was a lot of legal advice on those and some from some very experienced people.

I would NOT go near Council until you have done your research and even then if I had rural land I also wouldn't go anywhere near Council ... you don't need to. It is just a paddock that meets the minimal dimensions as spelled out in the ALA guidelines that is all. If it meets the right dimensions for YOUR aircraft, you can legally land and take off from it. To suggest you need approval from Council for this purpose is like suggesting you need approval from Council to drive your D7 across any of your paddocks. Aircraft can be a normal part of rural activity as is having a 4WD.

DONT call it an airfield, it is just a landing strip (ALA) and don't do any commercial aviation activity from it unless you are an AG pilot and happen to own the land and it is part of a larger rural holding.

  13. Why would you talk to the council. Give a beaurocrat any reason to stuff you around and he / she will do just that. Tell them nothing and take them nowhere. You can work out what length you need by doing some tests. A C180 will get in where a C172 or jab would stand no chance. They can get off in less distance than a Thruster, I know because I lost a bet on that.

SPOT ON... only CASA have aurthority on rwy's.. COUNCIL<POLICE>NEIGHBOURS, ETC ETC...,CANT DO SQUAT AND HAVE NO SAY...

  14. like most mornings left at 6:30am this morning ,flew the 8nm to Pa's lil 200 meter strip,1 way in,1 way out enjoyed coffee and yak before flying back home..What did I see?

A fire that was fought here a few weeks ago, (I had previously searched for) was spotted by the hwy in #$%^$%^ front yard...looks a bit close to the house I thinks...

    nice flight bit rough...

  15. JUST A QUICK ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Chapter 14

    "Charlie's Lesson"

    Jan 22 1983

We were woken early (3am)to the sound of a vehicle and were surprised to see Tommy out so early? After a quick cuppa and by the light of the fire we all set about assembleing Tommy's new toy and by 9am he was ready to test her out..Tommy pacticed some taxing in followed by some fast runs skimming the sand and after only 20 mins was soon airborne.

He threw the beast around like a rag doll diving and alike with his pod swinging wildly (show off ,I couldnt help but jump on the radio and comment" watch that wire Tommy!).

He was soon back down with a smile ear to ear and a big thumbs up..

By 10am we were packed and ready for our short flight to Ouyen were we planned lunch.

The flight of only 18nm to Ouyen was un-eventfull(and rather boring) however there was a council member mowing along side the strip but soon stopped and left for lunch I guess.

After lunch We had decided I would lead the next leg to Pinnaroo followed by Tommy then Charlie.

I lined up the runway and noted The tractor/mower was parked about 20 meters from the middle of the runway on the left hand side, this did not worry me and I was airborne,as was Tommy well before the tractor..I began a circut followed by Tommy at around 300ft So I had a visual on Charlie.I noticed Charlie lined up off the right hand side of the runway in the not yet mowed grass? I radioed him "what ya doin ya old bugger?"Charlie repplied"bloody tractors to close so I'll just take off from here to be safe"..I watched charlie begin moving forward and within 50 meters he turned abruptly right? he then continued in a right turn completing 360 degrees before suddenly stopping in a cloud of dust back from were he started..I yelled" you alright Charlie" there was a long puase before he replied" Ya better get back here!!! upon landing we were confronted with poor old charlie in a sorry state and Brian already gone to fetch help.

. Charlie then told us what unfolded..He said without warning the plane turned a full 90 deg then lifted off the deck.It then continued in a nose high right bank and control inputs did nothing.I completed a 360 degree turn and cut power to attempt a landing but she stalled at 50 and nosed in..

A quick look over the quicksilver and Tommy and I could see the cause. As he accellerated the long grass cought his spoiler cable pulling it under the wheel causing it to engage making the plane turn to the right.

After what seemed like an eternity , the ambo's arrived and carted Charlie to hospital.. We dissmantled his broken bird and tied down mine and Tonny's birds and headed for the hospital only to be told he was tranfered to Melbourne... We were soon reunited with Charlie whome was in high spirits(proberbly the morphene?) He injuries consisted of fractured anlke,2 broken ribs, whip lash,12 stiches to thigh, and any number of bruises...poor old bugger.

Tommy and I have decided to head back to Ouyen and continue our flight to Pinnaroo on our own..should be fun!
