Two plugs together has a single flame front.

Two plugs on oposite sides has twice the fronts, giving half the time to cover the same distance.

On the Lyc with one off, the only plug has to travel twice that distance.

That heating pad is the same as the inside of the old electric iron, just need to adapt the heating element to what you need, keeping the thermostat at a low setting if you only want to keep the moisture at bay.
