  1. Stainless or aluminum formed duct sections + short flex joins – More rigid approach, but avoids all the internal wire issues while still handling heat well. Realistically, there isn’t a perfect “SCAT but no wire” equivalent that keeps all the same properties. Most people either accept SCEET/SCAT wire, or switch to silicone and redesign how it’s supported
  2. There’s no set route from YBRK to YHEW-just contact Rockhampton ATC early, follow their instructions to stay clear of controlled airspace and circuit traffic, and arrange PPR/local info for Hedlow since it’s a private strip. Most pilots just go with ATC guidance and then route direct once clear.
  3. On most Rotax 912/914 installs in Kitfox airframes, there isn’t a single “factory set” exhaust length from engine flange to muffler inlet. It’s typically a custom fit within the Kitfox exhaust system geometry. What matters most is keeping smooth bends, proper slip joints, and adequate support so there’s no stress on the heads or cracking at the flanges. If you can share which muffler system you’re running, someone may be able to compare it to a known Kitfox F23 installation.
  4. Hi all, I’ve found this forum really helpful over the past couple of weeks, so I thought I’d register and share my journey here as everyone seems to have great advice and tips. I’ve wanted to learn to fly ever since I went up with a work mate a few years ago—he even let me take the controls of his 4-seater out of Jandakot for a couple of hours. I’ve now booked a trial flight with an instructor to see how I go and whether it’s something I want to pursue further. I’m also planning on getting a Thatcher CX4.
