Great feedback so far...regarding the search, the top bar you are referring to is the breadcrumb. On the right of the breadcrumb is a quick navigation button. Perhaps I could look at replacing that with the search magnifying glass that when clicked/tapped, the search dropdown shows as I dont think anyone uses the quick nav anyway.
The only negative is that the quick search function will be fixed at the top and not be accessible anywhere down the page through the slide out menu, you would have to scroll to the top or bottom to access the quick search

Can you explain more with what you mean by top bar

It has now been 8 months running with the new overall site menu system. The menu system was a radical change to the standard menu systems found on forum sites however I personally believe it is much more intuitive not only on a PC but very much so on a mobile device i.e. phones and tablets.
I would very much like to hear your thoughts on it like have you got use to it, is it more intuitive than the standard horizontal menu, have you found it helpful on mobile devices, do you know of any bugs with it...etc etc etc, any comments at all, good or bad...this site is designed and managed with you, the user, 100% in mind so thanks in advance for any comments you can provide.

Sorry guys but I have had to step in and remove all the religious posts, religion has nothing to do with the post title and the opening post content. Please keep the posts relating to the subject matter of the thread...thanks

I have just added some extra great features to the site that I hope you may find useful especially the extra focus on site security:
Thread Tagging
In the forums now you can tag a thread with a keyword. Using the advanced search you can search by Tag however the system is limited to the tags that users have attributed to forum threads. The tags currently are mostly in the Media section however I encourage all users to start adding Tags to threads. Having Tags on threads also helps the search engines like Google etc find your thread here on Recreational Flying by the Tags:
2 Step Verification
Two-step verification, also known as two-factor authentication, requires you to provide two pieces of information to login. The general form is expressed as "something you know and something you have". "Something you know" is your password. "Something you have" is the new part. You may have seen this with other services, such as Google accounts. If you're familiar with that, you'll understand how it works here in Recreational Flying.
Two-step verification is something a user has to opt into sometime after they have registered. Enabling it increases security at the expense of a more complex login procedure. For many users, particularly ones that just lurk or only have a few posts, the "value" of their account is low so the cost may outweigh the benefit. However, for some users, the extra security could be worthwhile.
NOTE: 2 STEP VERIFICATION IS AN OPTION THAT USERS CAN NOW TURN ON OR LEAVE OFF - IT IS ONLY FOR USERS THAT WISH TO HAVE GREATER SECURITY AND PROTECTION
When you've enabled two-step verification, you will login with your username or email and password as normal. Once those are verified, we will determine if two step verification is needed. If so, you'll need to take the appropriate steps to complete that. Upon receiving that verification, you'll be logged in as normal.
Let's look at how each step works in more detail...
To enable, you enter the two-step verification page in your account section (displayed as an option in the drop down when you click your avatar in the site side column). Note that you'll need to confirm your password before you can do any manipulation to the two-step verification settings.
To enable, you simply pick the method of verification you want to use. Recreational Flying provides you with two "primary" verification methods:
- Verification code via app - this will use an app on your phone (such as Google Authenticator or Authy) to generate a 6 digit code. This code changes every 30 seconds.
- Email confirmation - this will send a unique, one-time-use code to the email address associated with your account. This method is not preferred over the app-based verification because if an attacker has access to your account, they may also have access to your email. However, it's certainly better than nothing.
To enable any method, you will need to go through the verification process to ensure that everything works as expected. This prevents you from being locked out by a system you didn't successfully complete once.
Password and Email Change
Beyond the above two-step verification, we have also made several other small account security-related improvements.
Now, if your password is changed, you will receive an email to make you aware of this. Normally you can disregard this, but it serves to help notify you if someone is accessing your account and attempting to block your access to it.
Similarly, if your registered email is changed, you'll receive an email (to the previous address) to make you aware of this.
Password Reset Process Changed
The password reset process has been simplified to be more user friendly and not send a password via email. Once you receive the email for the password reset request, the link will allow you to set a new password directly. This is more in line with current approaches to password resetting.
New Forum Posts
Now on the right side of the Forums Main Page, the latest posts are displayed as well as the latest profile posts
New User Email Confirmation
One thing that has been bugging me is that the core software doesn't allow me to resend a new user their registration confirmation link email. This has now been added so I can do this for new users
Plus many other small enhancements

A trick for jpg images is to open them in ms paint and save them again...most often the file size is reduced due to a lot of extra info that is not part of the picture is removed.
Remember there is also themedia library here on the site where you can create albums for photos and videos and then insert them into a forum post using toolbar across the top of the box that you type a post out in

Recreational Flying would like to thank Wagga Tyres for supporting the site. You will notice a display advert in the right column on most site pages and clicking it will take to their web site where you can get all your tyre needs...remember, it is always handy to have a spare tyre or 2 sitting in the shed just in case you suddenly need them.
Thanks again Wagga Tyres and the site user Nong

Gareth, don't worry there are kinds of sick people out there and we have to be understanding of their mental illnesses as they can't help the way they are. So much goes on behind the scenes trying to provide this resource...here is one email again just the other day that I receive:
All water off a ducks back because everyone has tried everything over the last 12 years like RAAus trying to kick me out, RAAus CEO trying to sue me with solicitor letters, the antics and abuse by so many people for so long, it all means nothing to me but just gets storred up in an archive waiting for that all eventful day when it can all get used
-
Sorry metalman again you have all your facts wrong, it has not been 2 months, try half that and the reason was explained yet you are still trying to do what you can to be antagonistic with false exaggerated statements again like you have always done regarding this site.
Your posts probably have something to do with the number of warnings moderators have given you in the past, the number of times you have been suspended from this site, the number of nasty emails you have sent me and your general all round opinion of this resource especially your comments you have made else where about it over the years yet you continue to come here and use this resource like your other mate who pretends to be a female to all the other site users. Perhaps everyone here may be better off if you left the building...but wait, then you wouldn't get everything this site provides you

Funny about your interpretation of service. Yes years ago Clear Prop did provide charts and that was because people wanted charts when they ordered other things. Air services and others sold charts but you paid extra with shipping, in fact Air Services shipping of charts don't provide the normal low cost shipping options that Clear Prop provides. Extremely expensive when buying 1 or 2 charts and having to pay $15 shipping.
So to provide you with cheaper shipping and the ability of including charts with your order we went out and got them for you, not making any money from them and in fact costing us in time and petrol so they could be bundled into your order for no extra shipping and to enhance safety by making it easier to have the latest charts.
In fact we kept 1 of each of the most popular ones in stock knowing very well that they were not sale or return and we would lose money on them come update time if we hadn't sold them but if we did sell that 1 that someone wanted the day before, who got there order straight away, we had to go and get another one.
Now if that isn't extreme customer service and really going over the top I don't know what more Clear Prop could do for recreational aviators...seems people's interpretation of service is over ruled by their desire to be antagonistic

Perhaps you simply did ring the wrong number and are blaming your error on my wife...if that is what you said on the phone why wouldn't Corrine, not knowing who you were, say no this is not Clear Prop.
If you paid by credit card then you will have to supply the credit card number as for security all credit card purchases are done directly in the westpac bank servers and we only know the last 4 numbers so please PM me the card number. No need for the card date or any other info.

Here is a thought, what say i order the rf headsets more frequently so they are always in stock and i am covered with supplier problems, that would mean spending another $12,000 more often which means to cover that investment you would pay $199 for one instead of $130...is that what you would prefer? Who loses then
-
I have said several times here that we have been promised new stock of the recreational flying headsets arriving "in just a couple of days" by the manufacturer for over a month now, in fact i paid $12,000 for the order a couple of months ago. Sure enough, the day i give up on them will be the day they arrive.
My wife Corrine who is running the shop whilst i work in Canberra is doing her best and she advised me the other day to issue a refund which i haven't done hoping the headsets would arrive that day. So it is my fault that i didn't do it on the spot however Corrine told me that you are most nasty person she has ever had the displeasure of talking to and your bully tactics to my wife, to any female, is completely disgusting. Corrine is the most gentle lady there is and would just take your abuse than to even think about hanging up.
This vast recreational flying web site resource is provided to everyone free of charge because of the shop and my mobile phone number is plastered around this site in many places for anyone to ring me direct in the evening. The shop is NOT a business to make money from but to provide the cheapest possible products to recreational aviators who fly NOT as a business but for fun and the small contribition the shop makes pays the costs of this site for you.
The alternative, drop the shop and charge the site out as a subsciption...who loses then, all brought about by a handful of arrogant aholes who think the world owes them everything.
Sure, the shop could provide you everything you want when you want them but you would pay higher prices as a business with the normal associated business costs but again who loses.
Both Corrine and I do our best to provide you with cheaper aviation products and a valuable huge recreational aviation resource of Recreational Flying AT NO COST TO YOU. I earn enough money for the family so why should I be bothered doing all this...I do it to try and help everyone including aholes like YOU and for nothing in return

I could look giving you the choice of what forums you want included/excluded in the whats new but not threads
-
Recently the forums have been getting threads and posts away from the main topic of the site which is recreational aviation. Whilst these off topics of politics, religion, guns and everything else may be of interest to some, these kind of topics are taking away the value of a recreational aviation resource.
Can I ask, could you please limit (reduce) the number of these Off Topic subjects and let's get back to having a recreational flying focused site so Google will value the site more in their search engine which brings more like minded people together to discuss aviation...your help is appreciated, thanks

Give Corrine a call, from later today, on 03 94448025 and Clear Prop will donate a bottle of composiclean wash and a bottle of polish to help get you started.
Composiclean is completely pH neutral and the best cleaner and polish for every type of aircraft...in fact it is the only cleaner and polish approved by Flight Design for their carbon fibre CT aircraft.

Good luck with your dream and hope this helps to get you started

Ratsh%t Retailing
in AUS/NZ General Discussion
Posted
This is the 2nd reason why I started Clear Prop. 10 or so years ago this same thread topic came up here in the forums. Many "recreational" aviators were not able to get cheap prices unless they were a business and could open an account and promise to spend x dollars to maintain an account. I thought that with the collective here, i could use my company to open accounts and supply with minimal margins to get cheaper prices for recreational aviators, provide the service on the side whilst at the same time offsetting the costs of providing this "collective".
However, in theory this was good for everyone but i also came up against supplier issues and it became a big job with nothing really in return. So I thought that if it was this much of an effort I may as well deal direct with the actual manufacturer. Whilst still having the same problems I could at least get things even cheaper and pass these extra savings on to you. But, there came more problems with the minimum quantities I had to purchase which in fact adds extra cost in financial terms i.e. capital costs. I now have what I think is a reasonable balance between manufacturers and distributors although I still get tripped up many times on supply. In reality it is most of the time not worth the pain and suffering, the effort and detriment to ones health in many cases but I still believe that whilst it may not help everyone, the effort does help some which is why my wife and I still do it for this site.
Incidentally, for those that knew of the saga I have just had with the Recreational Flying headsets, well yesterday another 100 finally arrived, hooray. I have had thousands and thousands of dollars tied up for months waiting for them
