G'day Learned Members,

I will be purchasing a Thruster aircraft this year and along with a multitude of other things I have been thinking about a helmet - do I need one or do I not? I did my initial training in a Drifter where it was mandatory to wear a helmet but I have seen many instances where people flying open cockpit rag and tube style aircraft, including at flight schools, where helmets are not used.

So my question..... Would you fly with a helmet in a Thruster, and if so, what helmet would you recommend?

Thanks,

Pud

Anywhere you can get a bang on the head is a good place for a safety helmet. If your crash is going to be fatal you might just get off, but the big benefit is where you might finish up with ongoing brain damage and the helmet reduces the injury to a headache.

Hit the net - there are inexpensive Race Helmets, and some of these incorporate headphones.

It would be interesting to see if you could build a mic into a full face helmet. A little heavier on the neck muscles, but you don't lose your bottom jaw in some accidents.
