here's what Harrier pilots made do with in the early 70's.

The system used inertial nav and the rear projection of 35mm film strip photos of aeronautical charts.

Need a magnifying glass for that little 3" gauge. Used to know an old pilot who flew with a magnifying glass for reading WAC charts and engine instruments 😁 No problems with flight instruments, he never looked at those 🤣

Yeah, a phone mounted over the vacant hole'd be a bigger, better, cheaper way.

(And for dedicated old-schoolers, there's always a refurbed Ferranti  - with built in magnifier ;- )

Just looked at a all Garmin dual efis, dual radio, IFR panel and came to 60k without installation.

I would imagine this would have been several times that in Seventies dollars (pounds).

We have come a very long way in both technology and price.

Our fathers would have been amazed at what we have on our phones today.

That is a nice panel you have there Gary, will be interesting to see what student pilot thinks of your 3" efis when you meet up.
