It delivers a lot.

And you can customise it to remove, highlight or re-position a lot of the fields.

 

I understand that its value depends on what you are used to.

Some have said they are slow to pull information from an EFIS and I understand if you have a few hours behind a 6 pack then this could be the case.

 

I am the opposite; probably because 95% of my 110 hours is behind a Dynon EFIS.

I find it very fast to pull information from and when I had to use the backup plane with a 6 pack I felt uncomfortable with the time I had to spend inside pulling information.

 

Yes there is a fair bit of custom wiring in a Garmin setup but this is a one off.

You cost it all out units and labour and you make the decision on the total price.

The biggest positive is that an all Garmin panel integrates very well and is great to use. But all Garmin adds cost so you make your own decision.

I'm not a fan of all glass, for me a six pack is so much easier to read at a glance and I don't have time to sit there trying to decipher the fancy red, green, yellow and blue that the squeeze into a small screen. Give me a nice 3.125 black and white dial any day but with all the new gadgets coming out I might just have change my view.

 

It looks like I'll be fitting a SuperECO trim tab 2 axis auto pilot, an Astro+ ADSB receiver and a Trig TT21 transponder. They are the best options I've found so far while keeping it compact, light weight and simple. The government rebate should just about cut the hardware cost in half. I think I can handle the installation if I'm lucky enough to have cool calm weather out at the airport.

 

The SuperECO can work independently but the Astro+ will need an iPad display. All units are installed as fixtures. I don't want to carry bits and pieces back and forth every time I want to fly. I'm not too sure yet what I'll do with the iEFIS MGL Lite that is already installed. I think it's days are numbered.

You will need to have an approved avionics LAME complete the installation to apply for the rebate.
