FrankPilot Posted February 8 Posted February 8 In August 2025, a Piper PA-28 Cherokee, with a student & instructor on board, made a forced landing onto a golf course. The aircraft crashed heavily, but did not hit anyone or anything on the ground. There was no post-crash fire, & the occupants were very lucky to walk away largely uninjured. With the benefit of hindsight, they maybe lost valuable time communicating with ATC & initially aiming for another far-away golf course, which maybe prevented a safer landing in an open space or on one of the many beaches. What would you have done? Hope you like. Cheers. 1
Moneybox Posted February 10 Posted February 10 Once they had noise vibration and oil smell it was obvious they needed to put it down. I think I'd have chosen a decent landing while I still had engine power. I can't say I've ever seen a golf course I'd like to land on.
facthunter Posted February 10 Posted February 10 Quite a few have been used successfully, even by twins when they ran out of fuel There's not always a lot of options. Beaches often have people on them, Roads have vehicles and overhead wires Paddocks look ok till you get up close. IF you land UP a slope you will stop quicker, but you need to think how you will flare. . Nev 1
FrankPilot Posted February 10 Author Posted February 10 Thanks Bernie for your Like. And thanks Moneybox for your comment - I think you hit the nail on the head about landing while still with some power/energy; better a controlled forced landing than an uncontrolled full-on crash. Cheers.
