danny_galaga Posted September 13 Posted September 13 I only got up to my first nav about 25 years ago, so now it's time to get back into it. First time around I had (still have) a Jeppesen CR-5. It looks bloody minute now! About to order some stuff. I recall seeing the ASA type computer, and thought they looked interesting, but my flying school at the time used Jeppesen. What are people's thought's on the pros and cons? One pro for Jeppesen is compactness of course, although the CR-3 is 6" . I think there used to be a CR-4, but even in the 90's it was discontinued. Also, what other bits and pieces will I need for studying? I'm ordering some new WAC and VNC. I still have an ASA ATC-RP1 ATC navigation plotter. Will also get a Flightrule navigation protractor.
Bosi72 Posted September 13 Posted September 13 Which exam? E6B for PPL/CPL exams CR3 for ATPL exams Google "casa <your exam> permitted material", and bring everything permitted. eg. https://www.casa.gov.au/licences-and-certificates/pilots/pilot-and-flight-crew-exams/pilot-exams/private-pilot-licence-aeroplane-exams#Preparingforyourexam 1
danny_galaga Posted September 13 Author Posted September 13 Does ra aus navigation exam come under ppl?
Bosi72 Posted September 14 Posted September 14 You can use both for all calculations. If using E6B for high speeds in the range 220kt - 700kt, you'll need to buy additional high speed slide. https://www.flightstore.com.au/asa-high-speed-e6b-slide

Thanks for the info 🙂 1
BurnieM Posted September 15 Posted September 15 (edited) While you need this for your RAAus cross country (or a RPL Nav) will you use it after you have the endorsement ? Most likely you will only use a EFB as most (with an internet connection) can get the winds and if you setup your plane profile correctly will also give you likely fuel consumption. Plus an iPad with a GPS can also give you updated times to next waypoint etc. I have an ASA E6-B which I used to calculate heading/speed. For everything else I used the calculator on my phone. facthunter Posted September 15 Posted September 15 One in 60 rule is pretty handy. Reciprocals add 200, Minus 20 or deduct 200 Plus 20. Nev 1

Doesn't matter if I use it or not afterwards if I have to have one for the tests.

Me too and I was quite surprised to find my Australia ERC Low WA map in 1:2,800,000 scale. Now I need dividers because my scale rule won't do that and I sold my tech drawing set 20 years ago. 2
