Hi Area-51,

Thanks for the terrific critique (with illustrations' for us simple folk). I was planning on wing root fairings/flairs for my new Sonex  (similar performance to the Europa illustrated)- not so sure now.

The Sonex is a terrific aircraft just as it is with just 80hp, and does a few things better than the Europa. The weak point is the canopy frame flex fatigue failure and thin plexiglass thickness.

Mine has only got 45 flight hours  so am still getting used to it. Goes like a "bat out of hell" - back in the "shop" for cooling system rethink (almost done).

If I had one, I sure would be trying things with foam and tape. I would think 3 knots would be a great improvement , after all, if this few knots enables you to arrive ok then it is cheap insurance.

STOL planes do not have to be excessively draggy. A bit of a clean-up works all the time you are in the air.  Nev
