Efis on ipad

Wondering if an efis app on an iPad works well. I understand the iPad has all the sensors in built. Are they good enough to use instead of a proper Garmin or similar panel.

The two most popular apps (OzRunways and AvPlan) seem to do the job quite adequately on an iPad. Search this site to find  other discussions about which model iPad (or other brand tablet) is best. The consensus seems to be you need a built-GPS (so not a wifi-only model) and plenty of memory.

 

Be aware that your device may someday fail you (it might overheat if in the sun, battery could run low) so a backup plan is prudent.

Not really much good to you if it's not being fed accurate pitot data etc. Standalone ipad sensors will give you GPS based ground speed and altitude and sensor based ahrs. Better than nothing but maybe get you on to trouble 1 day if relying on it. Ipads can be used to display efis information via Bluetooth or wifi if you want to go that way, Google search will give you a couple of supplier options.
