Just after 50 years since the first flying car, which was called the Aerocar Model I, built in 1949 by designer Moulton B. Taylor. Some sources say the airplanes had a Lycoming O-290, others say a Lycoming O-320. The wings and tail can be removed and towed behind when used as an automobile. Believe 5 of the model 1's were built.

 

 

Pardon the pun but the idea never took off.
