It happened to me on my first solo X/C in a Chipmunk (without smoke). The plane that flew around me was a Comper Swift. I didn't know it was coming and it wouldn't have been 20 feet off my wingtips. Nev

Any idea what that balloon like thing was, Not a balloon I think. Never seen smoke that thick and dark in colour before.
