What happened next? Did he crash? It did not look like he was setting up to land, and that spot didn't look like a good place to fly into with wide wings.

Bird brains are small. When they evolved wings they didn't need to think a lot to get away from their predators but then came birds of prey. Buggered that idea. Back to the drawing board. Nev

Size doesn't seem to matter much here; the smartest birds still have very small brains. Crows, galahs etc. A lot of the flying is done by their brain's autopilot, just like walking for us.

And in big flocks they never seem to collide, the whole group seem to think as one.

Amazing so see, and we still have little idea how they do it. Google Rupert Sheldrake. His theories of Morphic Fields and Morphic Resonance would explain a lot of the mysteries we see in nature.
