That is correct as far as my knowledge goes. Most auto camshafts are cast iron. This is not a particularly fancy metal but has been used for a while. Camshafts in the late 70's started to have excessive lobe wear with the lobes sometimes nearly disappearing. Lycoming engines have experienced lobe and follower problems but a lot of that is corrosion and initial start oil film problems. The camshaft is at the top of the engine and most oil drains away Fitting roller followers helps all engines where that can be done .
