In 2/1999 the marketing manager for the Society for Family Health in Johannesburg, David Nowitz, admitted that the recent Safe Sex had dramatically increased the danger of sexually transmitted diseases & unwanted pregnancies, instead of reducing these issues. In association with the government, they had distributed thousands of pamplets in languages of Zulu, Xhoto, English,Sotho, & Afrikaans, all featuring the character of "Johhny the Condom" & warning against unprotected sex. A free government condom was attached to each pamphlet. We made a commercial deal with a low budget distribution company Mr. Nowitz stated explaining that all of the condoms had been accidentally perforated when stapled to each pamphlet.
