  1. I dont have a problem with the aircraft, in fact I know little about them and it was not my intent to criticise the actual aircraft. I was commenting on the fact that there seem to be a few of these using parachutes instead of flying them safely, by passing airfields when problems indicate it may have been prudent to land and check things, others flying over unsafe areas etc.. The parachute in these cases seems to be being used as an excuse not to use safe planning and decision making.
  2. maybe the answer is not the parachute, its not to buy a Cirrus, they seem to be dropping out of the sky at an alarming rate.
  3. cos we're special...lol:amazon:
  4. I dont renew mine any more, landed at all sorts of RPT airports, been through all sorts of security gates, in 5 years never been asked for, or actually shown it, to anyone. Cant see the point any more. Waste of money.
  5. They have changed the website so that may be the problem. Strange that the Xair, with floats fitted is rated higher than a standard equiped aircraft. Re the 618 equiped Xair, they do travel a little faster but the motor problems with the reed valves and support from the factory make these a little sus. The Xair Falcon, with a 618 does have a speed advantage but this aircraft definitely does not need flaps and the one I flew from Vic to NSW was not the best handling machine. That may have been the setup. The standard seems to be the pick of them.
  6. over tight nuts and bolts...
  7. Someone has to pay for the upkeep of the airfield. Council does it from rates so non flyers are supporting your hobby. I was paying my local council $500 per year for a few years and then negotiated a rate with the private owner that took it over. I would love to have had the local rate payers paying for my sport asw some have. I wish my rates were only 150 per year. You want the airfield looked after, you pay for it.
  8. Just look up the pilot op handbook for your aircraft, spells it all out right there..
  9. How about we have a separate class called.."for the fun of it"...pilots
  10. Ian, ban him, close the thread and lets get back to reasonable people arging about unreasonable things sensibly...
  11. The personal abuse rule also applies to those who abuse the owner of this site.
  12. Yep, thought it was pretty obvious that the shop mainly pays for this site, but...hey...it takes all sorts...
  13. How about asking Ian first for a reason before dumping on him and the business.?
  14. Had the same problem when I changed headsets, found the fault was the squelch levels on the Xcom. Adjust3ed and solved the problem.
  15. Are the aircraft we fly not called Ultralights. You want to fly heavier, go GA for goodness sake. People want to remember why this organisation was formed in the first place, not winge and moan wanting a pseudo GA organisation. This in recreational aviation, we fly Ultralights (or microlights in NZ). You want to fly in controlled airspace, be heavier that 600kg, carry more than 2 peoplle all up, then go to the mob that does that. WE ARE ULTRALIGHT FLYERS. Deal with it.
  16. So how can hi vis vests make me safer in the air??? Where do most of our safety problems occur, on the ground??? Are they saying that if I wear a hi vis vest when flying, I will be safer???
  17. Clear, Concise and Correct........does that help?
  18. If you read the post you would have realised that NO radio calls were made or received from many of the offending aircraft. You are assuming that they make their calls. Obviously if everyone knows where everyone is then no problems. A turning base call and a turning final call makes it fairly clear where they are, but if they are worried about making too many calls and dont make them then I rest my case. Yes, the radio is listened to at all times when in the aircraft and those aircraft that actually make calls can be placed in the area in your mind. Those that dont cant be placed or seen. I agree witrh your statement and in an ideal world that is correct but we are talking about the type and volume of radio calls for training and safety. Call, be heard and be damned to the naysayers.
  19. Yep it is, buy about 10nm....big deal.
  20. Thats why Temora was excellent and if not for the vested political interest in the aviation community, and the couldn't give a sh..t attitude of the members would have survived. The event was brilliantly organised by Carol on the ground at Temora, but because of that the naysayers and envious faction tried to white ant all the hard work. We had a winner that required some work. Wake up people, if you want a national flyin then you have to actually do something, not leave it to the other people to do the work. No good getting all philosophical about it and quoting studies, look at the real world, roll your sleeves up and actually do something....you know...its called involvement. Dont bitch about it if you arent prepared to get your hand dirty and actually do something.
  21. Sorry Happyflyer, disagree totally, I want people to know where I am and what I am doing. Then the excuse "We didnt know" doesnt apply. I prefer to live, not go out in the front of another aircraft silently. I have paused before entering and using the active runway at my local airport and more than once have seen an aircraft on short final without them making any calls. Sorry mate, I like living and if that means I p..ss someone off because I make to many calls then so be it.
  22. I would make any, and all, calls that you feel keep you safe and others aware of your presence/intentions. If they say you make too many, tell therm your life is worth more than their opinions..
  23. How about nwe revive the home of Ultralights and have the southern one at Holbrook? The northern one was tried in Queensland a few years ago...Monto if I recollect correctly...
  24. Remember we also need distances from Melbourne, perth, Brisbane etc to cater for those who have the temerity not to reside in the great Syd town...
