Can anyone suggest a reasonable GPS that is not over the top in functionality and reasonably priced. I have been looking at the Garmin 196, but I'm told it could be an overkill for what I need. My trike is a bare minimum - Altimeter, Tacho, ASI, Eng Temps. I plan to do a lot of cross country...

Ooops I think I posted this under another forum heading ...sorry

How does it go when you are flying in country terrain and not much in the way of roads?

When you zoom out, it still shows names of towns close by, rivers, coastlines, forests etc... so for XC as a cheap alternative to expensive aviation gps, it's ok, I would still do manual calculations, but you have the added benefit of using GPS to help keep you on track and check your ground speed. Obviously it won't do flight calculations and show airspace.
