Aerotwin Engine

The April RAA mag has a write up on this engine.

Now....I was thinking, since this engine will run in the horizontal position, a boxer type 4 cylinder engine could be developed with, basically independently run banks.

 

The biggest downside would be the engine width, which being OHC would run out to 800 mill or so.

 

Any thoughts on this engine which is designed to replace the Rotax 582?

Its certainly an interesting engine. I was thinking that it was a bit on the heavy side until I went and added up the weights for a rotax 582 with all the "options" listed at http://www.ultralightnews.ca/rotax582/rotax582specs.htm and came up with 50kg.

 

Mind you I'm not sure if the aerotwin's 45kg includes exhaust etc..
