Jimmy Doolittles Shell/Doolittle Stinson Reliant SR-10

This beautiful aircraft, once flown by the historic Jimmy Doolittle, is now owned by Tom and Jeff Ferraro, and is hangared at the McKinney National Airport in McKinney, Texas. This particular model is a 1938 Stinson SR-10 "Gull-wing" Reliant and was restored to its original color scheme.

Stunner of an aircraft. I sat in it at 08 Airventure and it was for sale then. Aircraft of that period were equipped like cars, huge round control wheels, window winders and cigar lighter. Before the second world war Jimmy was an executive for Shell and flew this company owned Stinson all over the US establishing Shell Aviation Agents.

 

Jimmy Doolittle did a lot of 'firsts' including the outside loop and the first circuit completed on instruments.
