Safety - Scanning the Skies for other planes

Any height and any direction below 3000' so if you are just buzzing around at below 3000 OK. I may go 20 miles and change direction and repeat thet, so to be legal I can spend several minutes going through the wrong levels. At the speeds I travel and with the good visibility I don't worry too much about mid airs, but I have had a couple of close calls over the years.
