Learn to fly helicopter book.

I fly fixed wing and know bugger all about rotary. My 11 yr old son is keen on learning to fly helicopters and was thinking an introductory book on learning to fly a helicopter would be a good stocking filler for Xmas. Can anyone recommend a text that may be suitable?

I can highly recommend the FAA Rotorcraft Flying Handbook as a first chopper book. Easy to read with excellent easy to understand graphics, and there's even a section on Gyroplanes.....

Thank you for that. That was one of the ones I was looking at as well as the Principles of Helicopter flight. Have you compared the two of those?

I have both and the FAA book is more entertaining for the want of a better description. I think the graphics are more engaging making the information easier to relate to.

 

Very unusual for a government publication.

you can download the book and get it bound yourself, which i have done, i use it for flight training to give to students very good read.
