planedriver Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 You might find this interesting........... 1940's Aircraft Carrier In The Pacific - Rare color footage This is 16mm color (not "colorized") footage that you may not have seen of carrier action in the Pacific. Not many color shots in the '40's - extremely expensive then, with a complicated and exacting processing process. http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=9dR3h2HdnBQ
Old Koreelah Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Thanks for posting this, PD. And thanks to the forward-thinking people who organised to record history as it was made. You can see how the Allies, particularly the USA won WW2 by outproducing the enemy, who could not afford to toss damaged planes over the side. I was always attracted to naval aviation, after a Korean-War pilot described landing on a carrier as like simultaneously having a car crash and an orgasm.
eightyknots Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 A great "blast-from-the-past" mini docco :-) I really enjoyed seeing it. Thanks for posting this on this forum, PD!!
