Emergency services were called to Medway Rd in Berrima about 7.45am Thursday after reports a light plane had crashed into a paddock.

When ambulance, police and fire crews arrived, they found the pilot trapped inside the wreckage.

Police said the 58-year-old man, who was the sole occupant of the aeroplane, is believed to have been inside the wreckage “for some time” before he was freed.

He sustained leg injuries and was treated at the scene by paramedics, before he was flown to Liverpool Hospital.

Aviation authorities have been notified and are investigating the incident.

There has been a huge increase in emergency landings on roads lately. I read recently that the FAA are getting twitchy about it. One I saw a little while ago (did I post here?) landed on a road and hit a car, very luckily not killing the driver. There was a swamp next to the road. All seven people on board — two pilots and five passengers — survived the crash.  One individual sustained minor head injuries and was airlifted to hospital, while the others were treated at the scene and also taken to Broome Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  Emergency services, including marine rescue, police, and St John Ambulance, responded swiftly, with one person being winched from the wreckage by helicopter. 

 

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) has launched a formal investigation into the incident.  Investigators are examining the wreckage, recovering flight data, and interviewing crew, passengers, and witnesses. The aircraft was en route to Mungalalu Truscott Airport, a key hub for the oil and gas industry, located about 620 km northeast of Broome.

Emergency services have responded to a fatal plane crash in Sydney’s southwest today.
About 11.50am (Saturday 26 October 2024), emergency services responded to reports two light planes had collided and crashed in the vicinity of Belimbla Park, near Oakdale.
Officers from Camden Police Area Command are currently at the location and have secured two crime scenes.
Members of the public are urged to avoid the area.
No further information is available at this stage.
An investigation into the cause of the crash will be undertaken by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB).

AN AIR France pilot has spotted a white object floating in the water during an approach to Reunion Island, where a wing part of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 was found in July.Local authorities in the overseas French territory said they had ordered a ship to divert to the area where the unidentified object was spotted, some 70 kilometres off the island, and a military plane was due to fly over the zone.

 

The pilot on the flight from Paris to Reunion Island spotted the object early Tuesday while flying at an altitude of 3000 metres, Air France said in a statement.

 

According to Reunion authorities, the ship that diverted to the area indicated by the pilot did not immediately find anything. However they have asked the French military to search the area on Tuesday afternoon.
